Why Metaphors Create Movement
By Rich Galgano
I use metaphors to guide someone down a path they can see, understand, and walk themselves.
Not to trick them.
Not to corner them.
Not to pressure them.
To orient them.
Orientation Beats Persuasion
A metaphor gives someone a mental path that feels familiar and non-threatening.
It replaces uncertainty with something they already understand.
People do not resist paths they can visualize.
They resist being pushed into places they do not understand.
That distinction matters.
Seeing Comes Before Moving
When someone can see the terrain, movement becomes possible.
They are not reacting to pressure.
They are making a decision they understand.
That is why metaphors work.
When I frame a situation as a river crossing, I am not selling.
I am helping them see where it is safe to step.
Coordination Beats Persuasion
The metaphor aligns perspective without argument.
That is not persuasion.
That is coordination.
Coordination allows people to move together instead of pushing against each other.
Code Yellow
Code Yellow is about clarity and orientation.
It is choosing tools that help people see before asking them to move.
That is how progress is made without force.
That is Code Yellow.
